You can now enjoy a different kind of wine experience in the centre of Valencia. The Barrio del Carmen is, to all intents and purposes, the true historic centre of the city. Its visitors enter a labyrinth of cobbled alleyways that have witnessed some of the most important historical passages in our history, including the discovery of El Celler.
The visit to the oldest winery in Valencia has been designed for those who, like Epicurus, think that pleasure is always the first good.
We offer several special experiences: a visit to the winery; wine tasting and tasting of cured meats and local artisan products; and the possibility of holding private company events and group days with a multitude of à la carte options. Our oenologists provide the necessary didactic element to the tour so that the experience, as well as being culturally evocative, will also be so for the palate.
It has never been easier to give the gift of an oenological experience.

An evocative day. Since 2007, PROAVA and the IVVSA have been restoring this unique space with special care to keep its soul and immense historical value intact. The result is a place that evokes more than 800 years of history and whose restoration offers visitors two levels of sensory and audiovisual experience in a completely immersive recreation that can be accompanied by tastings and samplings.
Charming events. No more than 20 people (capacity limit that guarantees complete enjoyment and the reason for prior booking) can simultaneously enjoy a cultural visit, wine tastings, presentations, tastings and all kinds of company activities, celebrations, events, assemblies or conferences.
The medieval Celler of Valencia is one of the most vivid and evocative experiences that can be had in the whole city. And a great choice for those private events that seek to surprise and captivate, while a good local wine does the rest.
Options for groups on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings.

During the construction of some buildings between the Plazas del Arbol, Centenar de la Ploma and Calle Baja, the blow of a pickaxe opened up an unprecedented find: a medieval cellar that had waited no less than eight centuries to be discovered. A veritable time capsule whose sensational state of preservation facilitated its immediate consideration as a a major heritage asset.
This archaeological discovery has brought back to life one of the most significant periods in the history of Valencia, when James I ‘the Conqueror’ took the city from the Arabs and then annexed it to the flourishing Crown of Aragon in 1238.
The Medieval Celler was one of the first buildings to house the Barrio del Carmen. Within its walls, and for more than 200 years, the quintessence of the Mediterranean diet as we know it today was stored, produced and sold: cereal, oil and wine (cereal, olive tree and vine).
The winery remained in business until well into the 15th century. From then on it could have been a shop or a tavern – one of the many mysteries that still enclose its walls. The truth is that it is currently one of the most emblematic places in the city of Turia.
El Celler is a place where time passes going backwards.
